Free trial offer as Ecompter announces compatibility with HCMI

Ecompter’s Sustainability Service for hotels, that includes continuous CO2 management reporting and an online CO2 calculator for the hotel guests, is the first service to be based on the new hotel industry agreed common method for measuring and communicating carbon emissions – the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI 1.0)*.
The HCMI 1.0 methodology was developed by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and the International Tourism Partnership (ITP), in consultation with 23 leading hotel groups and KPMG. Ecompter was one of the companies consulted on the methodology during its second phase of development.
To support the adoption of the HCMI standard and to enable the hotel community to get started with a uniform way of CO2 reporting, Ecompter is offering a new free 6 month trial of the service.
Ecompter’s sustainability service also features an easy-to-digest summary of the hotel’s environmental initiatives and results, plus an interactive image of the hotel room to show guests how they can cut their energy use during their stay (eg by using the room’s shower instead of bath).
Mr. Ville Valorinta, Managing Director of Ecompter says; ”Through Ecompter we want to help raise awareness and understanding of how unbiased and standardized CO2 reporting and inter-active communication can be used to manage and monitor the environmental initiatives and engage both staff and guests to pay attention to the consumption.”
Fran Hughes, Head of Programmes at ITP say; “We are working hard to embed the methodology and achieve maximum take up. We hope to increase the ‘supply’ of information by reaching out to other hotel groups about HCMI, as well as to travel management companies and global distribution systems to ensure they are aware that carbon footprint information is available and making sure it can be provided to the customer in the most straightforward format.”
Hotels wishing to take advantage of the Ecompter free trial offer should contact info@ecompter.com at their earliest convenience, as the offer is available for a limited period only.
Please see www.ecompter.com for full details and demonstration of the Ecompter service.

Editor’s note:
*The hotel energy management reporting system produces quality reports on the hotel’s greenhouse gas emissions based on the Corporate and Accounting and Reporting standard of the Green House Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) which is the most widely used international accounting method used to calculate and manage greenhouse gas emissions. These calculations are related to the accommodation.
