A Flurry of Improvements at Utah Resorts

Utah offers 11 resorts, 40 to 70 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport, that have an average annual snowfall of 500 inches of soft, light and fluffy ‘champagne’ powder. This season’s big news includes great training camps, more high-speed lifts, more on-mountain activities, more great food and more convenience for visitors.

ALTA SKI AREA: 2200 acres of skiing, 116 plus runs, highest peak 3215 metres
Alta is celebrating its 75th anniversary during the 2012–13 season with events through January. Alta is justifiably proud of its cult status, traditions and 550 annual average inches measured over the last 32 years.  www.alta.com

BRIGHTON RESORT: Over 1050- acres of skiing, 66 runs, highest peak 3,200 metres

Brighton is gearing up for the 2012–13 season with the transformation of some of its refreshment facilities, a mobile app, mobile website and the terrain park will have 20 new features. http://www.brightonresort.com

BEAVER MOUNTAIN: 830 acres, 40 runs, highest peak 2,680 metres

BRIAN HEAD: 828 acres, 71 trails, highest peak 3,200 metres

Brian Head is the nearest resort to Las Vegas offering Utah powder and easily accessible up Interstate 15.  The Grand Lodge at Brian Head has recently become a Hilton Double Tree Resort and Spa. www.brianhead.com/

CANYONS RESORT: 4,000 acres across 9 peaks, 5 bowls, 182 trails and highest peak 3045 metres/ One of the five largest ski resorts in the USA.

DEER VALLEY RESORT: 2026 acres of skiing, over 4 peaks and 6 bowls; 90 trails for all levels; highest peak 2915 metres.
Winter ski guests accustomed to Deer Valley’s first-class service and amenities will be treated to even greater benefits with the Resort’s scheduled £5 million worth of improvements for the 2012–13 season. Leading the list of upgraded facilities is the replacement of the Deer Crest chairlift on Little Baldy Mountain with a high-speed detachable quad lift to be named Mountaineer Express chairlift, which will increase the uphill skier capacity by 1,200 skiers per hour.

PARK CITY MOUNTAIN RESORT: Venue of 2002 Winter Olympics with 3300 acres skiing, over 8 peaks and 9 bowls – 114 trails for all levels; highest peak 3,048  metres. 

Park City Mountain Resort and Neff Headwear join forces in 2012–2013 to create the resort’s newest terrain park: Neff Land with a creative style and atmosphere from the minds of the Neff design team.

Kids Signature 5 (for kids ages 6-14) offers personal attention and the opportunity to learn in classes no larger than five students to an instructor. POWDER MOUNTAIN: 3,000 lift served acres plus a further 4,000 snowcat acres.  Highest peak 2,775 metres

SNOWBIRD: 2500 acres, 85 trails, highest peak 3350 metres.
The resort has a three-year schedule of major capital improvements, including making summer activities more thrilling with a new mountain coaster, making mountain access easier by replacing Little Cloud and Gad 2 with high-speed quads, and the centerpiece – a new facility atop Hidden Peak at 11,000 feet, with a revolving restaurant and bar (opening in 2014). www.snowbird.com

SNOWBASIN RESORT: 3,000 acres, 113 runs, highest peak 2850 metres

Snowbasin, one of USA’s SKI Magazines top rated customer service resorts, is located less than 35 miles north of Salt Lake City with one of the easiest drives from Salt Lake International Airport as well as quick access to the Park City Area and Downtown Ogden.  To ensure the continuation of exceptional grooming Snowbasin is expanding the snowcat fleet for the 2012–13 season. SUNDANCE RESORT

SKI UTAH

TRANSPORT

Utah is committed and investing in making transportation easier and more effective for visitors. The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is completing a new rail extension from Salt Lake City International Airport to downtown Salt Lake City and will begin running the train in 2013. The train will provide quick transfer from the airport to downtown hotels and restaurants.
